| Crawford Tillinghast is the assistant to Doctor
Pretorius, a mad scientist (of course), who has invented a machine called the Resonator
that stimulates the pineal gland in the brain. It creates a magnetic field, and while a
person is within it he can "see" strange creatures (like the eel-like thing
pictured above) with a sort of sixth sense. Crawford witnesses Pretorius's head being
sucked off by "It", a slimy entity that lives "beyond". Everyone believes that Crawford is crazy, except for Dr. McMichaels (Barbara Crampton), who is studying schizophrenia and finds him in Arkham Asylum. Needless to say, things don't go according to plan when she returns with Crawford to Pretorius's mansion to recreate the experiment that got him killed. This is another one of Combs' great performances. You feel so sorry for this guy!
